Inlet manifold gasket

The inlet manifold gasket is the seal between the engine block and the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold is attached to the engine block and regulates the airflow to the cylinders. To prevent this air from escaping, a gasket is fitted between the engine and the manifold. The inlet manifold gasket can leak due to the heat and high pressure of the engine. To keep the engine running smoothly, it is advisable to replace the gasket in good time.

The intake manifold supplies oxygen to the cylinders, allowing combustion to take place. The gasket prevents air from escaping. Because the engine can get very hot and expand, the intake manifold gasket has to endure a lot. Over time, this part can start to leak. This can lead to high fuel consumption, reduced performance, and engine overheating.

Intake manifold gasket

Due to the heat and high pressure in the engine, cracks can occur in the intake manifold gasket. This can eventually cause a leak in this part. A leaking intake manifold gasket can allow unfiltered air into the engine. Normally, air enters through the intake manifold, passing through the air filter. This filter removes dirt from the air before it enters the engine. Air that enters the engine through another route is also called 'false air'.

Dirty air in the engine causes premature wear and damage. Problems that can arise from this include:

Reduced engine performance. The gasket is responsible for the engine vacuum. If there is a leak, the engine components that operate through engine vacuum will not function (properly).

Coolant leaks. In some cars, the intake manifold gasket also seals the cooling system.
